I started running (in HIGHLY unserious fashion) in the Spring of ’24 after an introduction to Run It Up Dallas. Since then, I’ve lost count of how many races I’ve completed. Not included in that count, whatever it is, are the miles I’ve run during the “in between” – just me and my thoughts.
There’s a common misconception that one must start “early” to be successful – however one defines success.
What I know to be true is that starting where you are is the best time to do or be anything.
In addition to the love I’ve developed for the sport, is the love I’ve developed for running as part of a community, and for running as a means to give back.
Beyond the medals, the swag, and the cardiovascular look-good-feel-good race perks (all things I very much enjoy, by the way), Run Project’s nonprofit beneficiaries align with causes I champion in real life – whether making athletics more accessible to young girls, providing resources to men, women, and children currently unhoused, and/or providing a foster destination for cats waiting on their forever homes.
Other than that, my hat and I look forward to seeing and running with y’all on the roads-n-trails this year.
