In the event of unfavorable conditions, we will be your eye in the sky. Join us in our commitment to weather safety.
At Run Project races, the safety of our runners, volunteers, spectators, and staff is our top priority. Our running event weather policy will help navigate the storm. While we fully expect Texas heat, humidity, and changing weather conditions, race officials reserve the right to delay, alter, shorten, or cancel any portion of the event if conditions become unsafe.
We Have a Plan in Place
Our team actively monitors:
- Heat Conditions (Wet-Bulb Globe Temperature Index)
- Lightning
- Heavy rain / storms / flooding
- Wind conditions
- Course safety conditions
Race weekend decisions are made in collaboration with:
- Race officials
- Local law enforcement
- Medical teams

Rain Policy
Run Project races are rain-or-shine events. Light rain alone will not cancel or delay the race. Heavy rain or flooding may result in:
- Start delays
- Changes in available distances or courses
- Event cancellations

Lightning & Severe Weather
Severe weather conditions including lightning, dangerous winds, or other unsafe conditions may result in:
- Start delays
- Changes in available distances or courses
- Shelter-in-place orders
- Event cancellations
In an emergency, follow official race communications and instructions from race staff and emergency personnel.

Heat Conditions
Texas races always expects warm conditions. As the WBGT rises, so does sweating and fluid loss. With fluid loss comes the risk of various heat injuries: heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If heat conditions worsen, we will pre-stage and deploy additional cooling and hydration.
Participants are encouraged to:
- Hydrate before and during the race
- Adjust pacing based on conditions
- Know their limits
- Use hydration stations and cooling support on the course
Race officials may modify race operations if extreme heat creates unsafe running conditions.

Race Communication
In the event of weather impacts, updates will be communicated through:
- SMS text alerts
- Social media
- Race website
- On-site announcements
Participants are responsible for monitoring race communications throughout race weekend.
Sign Up for Updates. Stay informed.
Event Changes & Cancellations
Weather-related decisions may include:
- Delayed start times
- Modified courses/distances
- Event cancellation
All decisions are made with participant safety as the top priority. Entry fees are non-refundable, including in cases of weather-related modifications or cancellations.
Stay Ready. Stay Safe.
Texas weather can change fast. We appreciate your flexibility, patience, and cooperation as we work to provide the safest possible race experience for everyone involved.
