NEW Dash Down Greenville Charity Partner Announcement

Teaming up to help our local SPCA of Texas, Run Project is proud to announce our strategic partnership for the St. Paddy’s Dash Down Greenville 5K. 2019 will mark a new relationship with the SPCA of Texas, the leading animal welfare agency in North Texas and serves as an active resource center providing an array of programs and services that bring people and animals together to enrich each other’s’ lives.

Run Project is thrilled about this new affiliation as the SPCA of Texas works tirelessly to protect animals in the North Texas area. Participants of Dash Down Greenville 5K will now have the chance to help in the cause simply by registering. The proceeds from the race go right back to SPCA of Texas. SPCA OF TEXAS

The SPCA of Texas is dedicated to providing every animal exceptional care and a loving home.

The SPCA of Texas is the leading animal welfare agency in North Texas with two shelters and three spay/neuter clinics located in Dallas and McKinney, and serves as an active resource center providing an array of programs and services that bring people and animals together to enrich each other’s’ lives. The agency serves all demographics of the metro DFW area. The acronym SPCA stands for Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

To learn more about how the SPCA of Texas works to rescue, heal and find homes for tens of thousands of pets each year. Donations is how they operate and survive, without your help it would be devastating to the animals.

The SPCA of Texas features three spay/neuter and animal wellness clinics, two in Dallas and one in McKinney. Their focus is low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, annual exams, vaccines, heartworm preventive and preventative care for pets whose owners are indigent and/or do not have the resources to provide for their pets’ basic veterinary care.

The SPCA of Texas is able to provide subsidized savings on their clinic services thanks to the generosity of our donors and sponsors. This savings allows their clients to care for their pets using low-cost co-pays.

The History of The SPCA Of Texas:

The SPCA of Texas was incorporated by Texas State Charter on September 22, 1938 and is a tax-exempt non-profit organization under section 501[c]3 of the Internal Revenue code.

SPCA is over 80 years old, but they trace our roots to the late nineteenth century.

The June 30, 1888 issue of the Dallas Morning News stated that the Dallas Humane Society (the SPCA of Texas’ forerunner), was in fact the first humane society in the state of Texas. The agency was organized in 1888 to protect both animals and children. In later years, the group focused solely on animals.

The Dallas Animal Protective League and the Dallas Society for Animal Protection emerged in the 1930’s and the two groups consolidated in 1970. The name of the two groups together then became the Dallas SPCA. Then, in 1993, the Dallas SPCA (based in Dallas) and the Humane Society of Texas (based in Collin County) merged to become the SPCA of Texas.

The SPCA of Texas is currently comprised of two shelters and three spay/neuter clinics located in Dallas and McKinney in addition to the wide array of programs and services that bring people and animals together to enrich each other’s lives.

Over the years, SPCA Of Texas have seen many shelters come and go, but our commitment to the animals has remained our guiding light. Today, as ever, we’re dedicated to providing every animal exceptional care and a loving home.

Volunteering:

As a volunteer, you’ll save and enrich animal lives, do good things for the community, make new friends, discover new skills and enjoy tail wags, purrs and happy faces. Volunteers are essential in every aspect of our organization, from helping us in the mornings to supporting our closing procedures at night, from directly helping to transform animals’ lives to being an integral part of our many wonderful events and programs. They work with our adopters, visitors, staff and of course, our animals. Our volunteers also help train and mentor other volunteers. Every day is different and every minute makes a difference!
